A Newborn Baby – Are You Really Ready for The Big Day?

19 March 2010 | Written by Baby Cherish

You have 9 months to prepare, but as the day closes in you start getting nervous. Are you really ready to bring your newborn baby home?

While every magazine, store, and article you read is trying to tell you the importance of a full blown nursery, it is really not very important. To be prepared for your newborn baby really takes very few things. Here are some of the essentials you need to have at home.

1. A bed for your baby. Do not be tempted to put your baby in your bed. While it sounds like fun, it adds risk to your newborn baby. You are not adjusted to having the little body in your bed, and if you accidentally rolled, or threw a blanket over their face, they might suffocate. You need to have a bassinet, or crib for the baby. Along with the crib, make sure you have a couple sets of sheets for the bed.

2. Newborn clothing. You do not need a wide variety of clothing, just some nice swaddling outfits, and maybe a couple cute newborn baby outfits. They will outgrow their newborn clothes very fast, so do not buy too many items. Focus on ease of changing and comfort. This will make those first few weeks much easier on both of you.

3. A baby bathtub and bath wash. You will need to give your newborn baby a bath a few times per week. You do not want to try this in the sink or your bathtub. An infant bathtub is very inexpensive and can be used for many months. It is a good investment. Make sure to buy a gentle baby bath wash. You do not need to buy both a body wash and shampoo, there are great all body solutions.

4. Newborn baby diapers need to be stocked up and ready for action. One thing you can be sure of is plenty of wet and dirty diapers. You will be changing diapers many times each day, so make sure you have plenty of diapers and baby wipes on hand.

5. A good nursing bra, and easy clothes to adjust for nursing. While these items are for you to wear, they are essential for your newborn baby. They will be very demanding when they are hungry, and you will be tired. Having the right clothes for you, will increase happiness for both of you.

6. Your support team, and phone numbers. This is an essential. You will have times when you may feel overwhelmed. Find out who is available for giving you a break on occasion. Do not wait until you feel frustrated, or upset, have the numbers ready and waiting. You may never use them, but knowing they are ready will ease your mind.

This list may not include everything you will want, but is a list which covers the basics for a great start with your newborn baby. Relax and enjoy the moment. Your life is about to become filled with craziness, love, and happiness.
