Are you debating between buying jars of baby food, or getting a baby food grinder and making your own? Some other parents may be trying to tell you grinding your own food is too much work.
Here is a little secret, all of those parents who told you it is too much work forgot to mention, they never tried. Yes, most of them have simply decided it was too much trouble and decided to start buying jar after jar of baby food. Their wisdom is based on a decision they made, not on real facts.
Here is something for your to consider. Which takes more time, going to the store and buying a weeks worth of baby food, or grinding a weeks worth of baby food? This is not a trick question. Stop and consider the real facts. If you get your baby ready, drive to the store, walk back to the baby food area, make your selections, pay for the food, carry the bags and the baby back to the car, and drive home, you are going to blow at least an hour. Is that a fair estimate?
If you use a baby food grinder, you can prepare apples, bananas, peas, green beans, and other items in moments. In that same hour you went to the store, you could have filled up just as many jars with food, if you simply tried.
Now here is the trick question. Which food is healthier for your baby? The food from the jar or the food your grind at home? In reality you will probably find very little difference between the two. They are both going to be made from vegetables, fruits, and meats which are carefully prepared. Their nutritional values will be very similar.
What about the freshness of the foods? You already know this answer. There is no question the food your prepare with your own baby food grinder is going to be much fresher. The taste will likely be better due to the freshness, too.
Which one is going to save you money? This is the easiest question of all. You will save a lot of money using a baby food grinder. You will be able to use many of the same foods you are preparing for the rest of the family. A large banana is the equivalent of a couple jar of banana baby food in a jar, and costs half the price of one jar.
The most important question, which one should you choose? Whichever method you prefer. Did you think there was a definite answer to this? A baby food grinder is a great choice in saving money, giving your baby better tasting food, and increased freshness. From a convenience factor the jars may win. From a nutritional standpoint, your baby will thrive on either one. Perhaps the best advice is to do both. Buy jars for those times you need the convenience, but keep a baby food grinder to allow your baby the joy of sharing with the family.
