It is very exciting when the due date for the new baby is rapidly approaching. Have you started to panic about having everything ready? Let us take a quick look at what baby furniture you will want in your home before the big day arrives.

There are only two pieces of furniture you should classify as essential. Every other item of baby furniture can come later. The first of these is of course the baby crib, or bassinet. You need somewhere for your baby to sleep. You should avoid having your baby sleep in your bed. It is not as safe for the infant. Choosing a good crib is very easy. Just make sure it is built strong, and when you assemble the bed to follow the directions carefully.

If you are buying a custom baby crib, make sure the builder follows the sames safety guidelines required of manufacturers. Baby furniture must follow some very strict guidelines concerning the gaps between rails, and any other openings. You want them tight enough so the head cannot slide through.

The second essential piece of baby furniture is the rocking chair. Yes, it is more important than other items. Wait until you have been walking up and down your hallways for hours, trying to get your newborn to sleep. Being able to sit down, and gently rock allows you to get a little rest, while helping your baby sleep. It will become both your baby’s and your favorite spots at night, and anytime they are fussy.

The next choice should be for some storage. You need to have a dresser, closet baby organizer, or other baby furniture for putting away all the little clothes, and accessories. Make sure to choose a dresser or organizer with enough space for all the clothes, and for the additional items you will receive at baby showers.

The other piece of baby furniture you should look at very seriously is a changing table. Many parents do not think about the need for a changing table, just using the baby’s bed or any empty spot. The advantage to a changing table, you can have all your supplies right at hand. You keep any messes away from the bed, and do not need to worry about getting the sheets, or mattress soiled.

One accessory you should add to your baby furniture is a good quality baby monitor. You can move about the house while monitoring the nursery for sounds of your baby waking up. It can give you a little extra freedom to keep the laundry going, cook a meal, or just sit and relax while your newborn sleeps.

Don’t forget the most important thing about choosing baby furniture. Make sure it is cute, stylish, and fun. This is your new baby, and they deserve to have a great nursery to begin their life. You will enjoy the nursery, too. It is not just for the baby, this is your special get away for bonding with your baby.
