You know the old saying sugar and spice, and everything nice, is what a girl is made from. Is this what should go in your baby girl room, too? It could be the perfect solution for your nursery design challenge, here is why.
Most baby girl rooms are boring. The are cute. They are pink. They look like every other baby girls room. When you choose to get with the idea of sugar and spice, you are choosing to have a mix of sweetness, and a little spiciness in the room.
What does this mean? Think about the average girls room. It has rainbows, pink bears, and pretty pink princess, and soft cuddliness in every corner. Why not change up the look a little to make your daughter’s room a little more interesting and exciting?
Decorate the room with rainbows if you wish. You can have the pink teddy bear. Then add in some other spicy ideas like a Rock ‘N Roll boy teddy bear dressed in a leather jacket standing beside the pink girl teddy bear. Instead of a pink Barbie car in the toy box, get her a toy Corvette or Porsche in screaming red. How many girls grow up to want a pink car?
On the walls, along with the rainbow, add some adventure. Maybe you want a dark cave with some cute critters peaking out. Maybe you want a rain cloud, flashing lightning with a Care Bear dancing underneath in his rain boots. The mixture of sweet and spicy makes your baby girl’s room an adventure, instead of boring.
The real question, are you decorating the room for the first year, or for her to enjoy for several years? Are you decorating it for you, or for her? The first months are not going to matter. She will not be able to see much. As her vision improves she is going to see bright colors, not the subtle color of pink. Add boldness to the room with some bright reds, yellows, greens, and other exciting colors. The pink can still be there, but create some great contrast to satisfy her vision.
As she is growing, the boring pink room will not be interesting to her at all. Rooms with a little bit of adventure, incorporating exciting playmates on the walls and in the decor will keep her interested and enjoying the room much longer.
Worried your parents or friends may think you have lost your mind? What if they do? It is not their baby girl it is yours. This is your opportunity to make a room you would have loved as a little boy or girl. This is your chance to give your daughter an exciting room to grow up in. Not just a room to satisfy the “oh it is cute” crowd.
There is nothing wrong with a baby girl room done all in pink, but if you want to have something unique, and a little more exciting, then accent your pink with some sugar and spice. Add some color, add some excitement, and really enjoy the room. It will be a place you spend hours playing with your daughter for years to come.
