Baby Hammock – Swinging Your Baby To Sleep

07 August 2010 | Written by Baby Cherish

Someone mentions the word hammock and your mind probably goes to a beautiful vision of lying down in a hammock hanging between two trees. Gently rocking as the breeze blows across you, the leaves rustling overhead. You gently drop off to sleep for a peaceful nap. What if it could be that simple to put your baby to sleep? A baby hammock could help make it true.

A baby hammock is not designed for the great outdoors, it is designed to be used in any room in your home. You can take them outdoors, if you wish, but most of the time you are trying to get your baby to sleep inside.

Baby hammocks come in many different styles, with only one thing in common between all of them. They all swing your baby. The hammock you probably want will include a stand and a motorized swinging action. This allows you to setup the hammock in any room, put your baby in the hammock, and start it swinging in motion, all by itself.

On other styles of hammocks, they may hang from a door jam, or other hanging point in your home. Many hammocks do not include a motor, you are responsible for powering the swing. This is not very convenient when you need to have your baby resting while you are busy doing other things.

What makes a baby hammock special for putting your baby to sleep and keeping them asleep? First, the gentle rocking motion simulates mother moving around carrying them in their arms, or even before, in the womb. This gentle rocking will have their eyes falling shut, and big yawns stretching their cute little faces.

Many of the baby hammocks wrap around your baby’s shoulders just a little, cradling them. This reassuring feeling helps them feel snug and comfortable, allowing them to fall asleep easily.

One other item you should watch for on a baby hammock is a music player. By adding some soft sounds to the mix you add one more soothing element to help put your baby to sleep.

You will love the portability of the hammock. You can quickly move it from the nursery to the living room, to the kitchen, or any other room you need to work in, or wish to relax in. Your baby will sleep comfortably in any room.

Parents who are used to spending hours walking the floors at night trying to get their baby asleep, and to stay asleep, should try a baby hammock. With all the reassuring and comforting elements of the hammock it often takes over the job, while you get some much needed rest. Your baby will love the gentle rocking motion, the quiet sounds, and the gentle hugging action of the hammock. Maybe as you drift off to sleep yourself, you will begin to dream of being in your own hammock, out in the back yard, the breeze caressing your skin, as you drift off to sleep.
