Having a new baby has already taken you through many baby milestones you have never thought about. The development of eyes, the starting of growth of hair and fingernails. Many of those developmental milestones were ones you noticed, like the first flutters of movement, the tremendous kicks, and finally the biggest milestone, the birth of your baby. Now you are looking forward to this first year of your baby’s life, wondering what comes next. Here are a few things you may expect along the way.
During the first month you can expect your baby to start lifting their head when lying on their stomach. You may notice your baby staring at faces. Your baby becomes sensitive to sound.
During the next two months you will see greatly increasing strength. Your baby will start holding their head up for longer and longer periods of time. They will start following the movement of items, paying attention to their surroundings. You will starting hearing all of those cute baby ooh’s and ah’s.
The fourth month will bring laughter, smiles, and coo’s of joy from your infant. They can start to hold up their own weight with their legs becoming bouncy little monsters.
Entering month five will bring about the recognition of colors, taking notice of their feet and hands. All of their motor skills are developing rapidly, and their attention to details around them grows.
In month six your baby starts trying to make the same sounds they are hearing. You need to get busy baby proofing the house, because the rolling has begun.
Month 7 brings about unsupported sitting, along with pulling toys and other fun things to themselves.
The eighth month starts the parental arguments. Was it mama or papa the baby said first? Do not worry, the baby does not know either. You are both mama and papa.
In your baby’s ninth month the jabbering is underway. You baby could start standing while holding onto things.
Remember in month six when you needed to start baby proofing? You might be too late if you waited for month ten. Your baby is crawling with ease. They may even turn around and wave bye-bye to you as they head for those things you left down. Move quickly, the race has just begun.
The eleventh month has your baby finally getting mama and papa sorted out to the right parents. Standing is easy. Peek a Boo becomes a favorite game.
In the last month of the first year your baby may start taking steps. They will start pointing to things they want. Instead of just imitating sounds, they are now imitating your actions. Be careful what you do.
This first year has been just the beginning to the adventure awaiting you. The next couple years are filled with exciting milestone after milestone. Your life will never be the same. Baby milestones are just the beginning or your life as a parent.
