Baby Strollers – How Many Strollers Do You Really Want?

19 March 2010 | Written by Baby Cherish

One of the most important items you need for a baby is baby strollers. You are going to discover very quickly carrying a baby through the mall, around a park, and for a long walk is harder than you expected. Especially when you start carrying along the diaper bag filled with all the essentials.

Baby strollers come in so many different varieties. You may discover having more than one stroller is a big advantage. Here are a few of the different styles you may wish to consider.

The normal and most essential stroller is the full-sized stroller you see rolling around all the time. It normally has a nice canopy to keep the sun out of your baby’s eyes. The backrest is adjustable for keeping the baby sitting, or almost flat for letting your infant sleep. These baby strollers normally have plenty of storage underneath for holding the diaper bag, purse, and maybe even a few items of shopping.

Many of these strollers come bundled with a car seat, which can be locked in place to make a great way to carry a tiny infant. The disadvantage to this type of stroller is the size. They are large when folded, compared to other styles.

The smallest form of stroller is the umbrella fold-up stroller. Every family should have one of these. They are easy to carry, and can be kept in the trunk of the car. They do not include all the features of the larger full sized stroller, but they do effectively carry babies of all sizes. These are the most convenient strollers to have with you.

Other strollers are more specific to special functions. If you love to jog or walk, you may want to consider one of the jogging strollers. With their over-sized wheels, suspension, and the added leg room for you, they make running easy with your infant.

You no longer need to sit at home waiting for your spouse to come home, you and your infant can have fun in the park, or racing down the road. While this type of stroller is not essential, they are very handy if you love to exercise. They are even nice for taking a long walk, if you are going to get off the beaten path. They will move easily over bumps, through grass, and through other rough terrain.

How many different strollers to you really need? This will be dictated by your lifestyle, and your needs. At a minimum you probably want a standard full-sized stroller and an umbrella folder. The combination allows you to have all the features you need, plus the small portability which will be essential.

Both types of strollers work great for your infants and small children. If you want to run, and have fun outdoors, your needs for strollers may quickly expand to three. Make sure you buy all the strollers you need to live the life style of your choice. The low cost of baby strollers will pay you back with freedom, and enjoyment for several years.

Our duo baby stroller saved us at the amusement park last summer.

Now that my son is 4 and we are planning our first post stroller Disney trip I have some serious stroller regret. I had the traditional car seat bundle stroller and enjoyed it. I never liked the umbrella stroller becasue of the lack of below storage and poor manuverablity on anything that wasn’t totally flat.

The “carts” that could have the carseat attached were not really around when I registered, but if I were doing it again that is what I would go for. I would have gotten the trolley (not the whole stroller bundle) for the car seat and a jogging stroller. Just becasue it is called a jogging stroller it doesn’t mean you can’t use it on the mall or anyplace else. They are agile and usually have a storage bin below. In addition they have a longer shelf life because they are high off the ground. They are great for older children. This is especially important in the double stroller situation where you might want to keep an older child in the stroller to make shopping etc. easier when you are managing multiple kids who all want to wander off in different directions. It is also good if you travel a lot like our family does. We have time share at Disney and go frequently. We took my 7 year old niece last time and she asked if she could possible take a break in the stroller on one late night in the park. If we had a jogger she might have managed it (heck I think I could sit in some of those joggers). Now I am purchasing a jogger just for when we travel. We will likely only get a year or 2 out of it so I wish that I had gone that way to begin with.

Finally I was just talking with my mother recently about how when she was younger people kept kids in strollers a little longer. Now a days you see parents out with a 2 year old and no stroller this just makes more work for the parents. The problem is at 2 your childs feet will already be dragging on an umbrella stroller (we lost 2 shoes on our last vaction because a dragging feet). It makes life easier, especially in crowded places, to have the piece of mind that your child is in the stroller and can’t wander off. Go with the jogger, or like me you might be buying one later anyway becasue it is the only option for a older child, or a child who is tall for their age.
