Are you ready to enter one of the biggest debates about motherhood? What are the best baby bottles for your baby?
As a new mother you might be thinking there is just not that much difference. You run to the store and just pick one up, they are all the same. Then you enter the store and are faced with a huge display filled with glass bottles, plastic bottles, different shapes of bottles, and bottles with liners. If that was not enough, then you have the issue of which style of nipple to choose. Should it be flat on the end, rounded tip, should it be flat to one side. How big of hole do I need in the nipple, fast, medium, or slow?
Let us answer the last questions first. The size of the hole in the nipple is determined by the age of your baby. A newborn needs a slow nipple since they cannot swallow milk as rapidly. As your baby gets older you can switch to faster nipples to satisfy their eating habits. They will become frustrated with a slow nipple as they get older. On the shape of nipples, the only real answer comes from your baby, just like with pacifiers. They will take to one better than others, once you have them eating well with a nipple, stick with it.
What about the issue of bottles with liners or without? This is more an issue of convenience than a real aid to your baby. The liners help you with cleanup, not needing to scrub and sterilize the main portion of the bottle. Most parents do not use the liners.
The question about plastic or glass was easy one or two years ago, but now has some new challenges. A few reports are talking about issues with BPA in the plastic bottles. All current research does not show any risk to humans, but has been shown to cause problems with rats, who cannot dispose of the chemical easily. There are now new plastic bottles being made without BPA, so this issue is likely to disappear quickly. Glass bottles only advantage would be their surety in not having other chemicals. Plastic bottles are lighter, shatterproof, and are easier for your baby to handle.
What about all the crazy shapes you see in the store? Your baby simply does not care, especially a newborn. Choose a shape you like and have fun. The best baby bottles are the ones which are the easiest to clean, fit in a sterilizer easily, and hold enough milk to satisfy your baby. Straighter narrow bottles normally work much better in an electric or microwave sterilizer than do the fancy rounded shaped bottles.
What is the best advice on choosing the best baby bottles for your infant? Look for a reasonable price, plastic, BPA free bottle, which comes bundled with the style of nipples you want to try. You will save money, not need to worry about bottles getting broke, and will have resolved the BPA issue.

my baby was already used to the regular nipple. I planned to switch to Dr. Brown’s wide neck because of colic problems. He now doesn’t want to drink his milk using the said Dr. Brown’s bottle… What will I do in order for him drink his milk using the latter to avoid colic problems?
