With the first sign of diaper rash or cradles cap you probably are going to start wondering if you really know how to take care of your baby’s sensitive skin, or not. Relax, almost every baby experiences rashes and skin irritations. You can help avoid many skin irritations, and help them heal quickly.

The most common area of trouble will be on your baby’s bottom. Diaper rash is very common. You can usually trace the cause of your baby’s diaper rash to a few simple items. The most common cause is a wet or dirty diaper remaining on the baby for too long. Other factors can include reactions to brands of diapers, baby wipes, lotions, and powders. If you notice your baby having problems shortly after changing brands of diapers or wipes, you may wish to switch back. Most times lotions and powders are not needed, and can create more problems for your baby’s sensitive skin.

Diaper rash normally clears up in a day or two if the baby is kept clean and dry. One of the best ways to accelerate the healing is to allow the baby’s sensitive skin more time in the open air. You may wish to put a changing pad under the baby, but allowing them to play without a diaper helps dramatically.

Other minor rashes, and cradle cap, are also very common on your baby. Do not panic when they occur. Usually they are cleared up quickly by keeping your baby clean and dry. Avoid adding chemicals from powders, lotions, and creams. If your baby’s rash or cradle cap does not clear up in a couple days, you many wish to schedule an appointment with your pediatrician. Cradle cap sometimes requires the use of special shampoos to reduce the symptoms.

Taking care of your baby’s sensitive skin is mostly a matter of keeping your baby clean with baths a few times per week. Avoid the temptation to bathe to often. This can strip the oils from their skin causing more problems, rather than helping. Keeping your baby dry, and their diaper changed is one of the most important tasks in caring for your baby’s skin.

If your home is hot, or you spend a lot of time outside on warm days, you may discover your baby develops a heat rash. This will disappear quickly once they are cooled down, and are dry. Wearing natural fibers will aid in reducing the onset of heat rash. It allows perspiration to wick away from the body easier, making your baby more comfortable, and the skin drier.

Make sure to use a baby detergent for washing your infants clothes. Their skin is more sensitive to chemicals than yours. Using gentle laundry soaps will help avoid rashes caused by remnants of laundry detergents.

Your baby’s skin will stay beautiful and soft. When the occasional skin problem does pop up, just remain calm, and know you are prepared to take care of it.
