Exploring popular baby girl names can be a great way to help us come up with a name for a new baby.

Exploring popular baby girl names can be a great way to help us come up with a name for a new baby. You can look at what names have been the most popular and see if you like them, or if they spur new ideas for you.

What may really surprise you is looking back at the most popular baby girl names throughout history. You will discover names you commonly hear today, and which have remained popular for many years. For fun, let us take a look at a list of names from different times in the history of the USA.

In 2009 the ten most popular names for girls were: Isabella, Emma, Olivia, Sophia, Ava, Emily, Madison, Abigail, Chloe, and Mia

For the entire first decade of the 2000’s things looked slightly different with: Emily, Madison, Emma, Olivia, Hannah, Abigail, Isabella, Samantha, Elizabeth, and Ashley

Jumping back a few decades to the 1970’s gives us: Jennifer, Amy, Melissa, Michelle, Kimberly, Lisa, Angela, Heather, Stephanie, and Nicole

Let us take a look at what topped the list in the 1950’s: Mary, Linda, Patricia, Susan, Deborah, Barbara, Debra, Karen, Nancy, and Donna

Now we will jump all the way back to the 1900’s: Mary, Helen, Margaret, Anna, Ruth, Elizabeth, Dorothy, Marie, Florence, and Mildred

The thing you might find interesting about all of these lists is how popular all of these names remain today. The best names in history just seem to keep rolling right along. You will notice there are many names taken out of the Bible in every list, which is still a popular place to get names today.

Most of the names which come and go out of these top ten lists of popular baby girl names always remain in the top 100 lists. They just never seem to go away.

The big variation comes in individual years where a name may suddenly become popular for one or two years when a public figure, Olympic star, Actress, or singer makes a big impact on our imaginations. The name just as quickly disappears from popularity and is once again replaced by the names which have held onto popularity for decades.

What does this tell you? If you want a name for your daughter which will be popular today, still popular during her high school years, and even when she becomes a grandmother 50 years from now, stick with the classics. The names seem to keep going on.

Is this telling your to stay away from names which are peaking in popularity today, or not to choose a special name for your daughter? No, that is a great choice, too. She can create a unique identity, and may be the person to bring the name back into popularity again when she becomes a star of the world. Unique names can be great fun. Choosing popular baby girl names just seems to be a safe choice all the time. Only you can choose the perfect name for your little angel.

Are you preparing for the arrival of a cute baby girl? You already know she is going to be cute, adorable, and very lovable.

Are you preparing for the arrival of a cute baby girl? You already know she is going to be cute, adorable, and very lovable. You want a name to be just as cute as she is. Or do you really?

Before you make the decision to choose one of the really cute baby girl names make sure you take some time to think about how the name will sound as your daughter advances in school, enters college, and goes on into adulthood. Will the name still sound great, or will it be too cute? You do not want to burden your child with a name which does not grow up along with them. Make sure the cute baby girl name is also a good adult name.

Beyond that tiny warning the sky is the limit in choosing or making up your own baby names. One of the easiest ways to find many cute baby girl names is to grab a large phonebook from a nearby large city and let your fingers do the walking. You will run across many names which are very common, but still cute. You will also start running across a wide variety of unusual and interesting names. As you find names you find interesting jot them down on a piece of paper and start making your own baby name list.

The next place to look is in a baby name book. You can pick up a book filled with cute baby girl names numbering in the thousands for you to go through. Once again, just jot down the names you find interesting on your own list of names.

One of the favorite places you can browse is on movie review sites. Go through the listings of actresses and female characters. In these lists you will find a wide variety of unique names you may enjoy. You may discover the perfect name from a character in one of your favorite movies.

Another common place to look is in the Bible. Biblical names have been the most popular names for decades and continue to have considerable popularity. Search through the Bible for names you enjoy, and again, add them to your own list of names.

As you are probably starting to realize with just a little looking around you can quickly create a large list of names for you to consider. You could easily have one hundred or more names written down for you to consider very quickly. Your biggest problem will be going back through the list and choosing which names to keep and which to throw out. Plan on sitting down several times with the list pruning it down until you are left with about 5 names at the top of your list. Then comes the really hard decision.

Take a look at your short list of cute baby girl names, try each one of them out by saying them a few times, and picturing your baby as an infant, as a first grader, as a freshman in high school, and as an adult. Choose the name you love the most for all stages of her life, and you will have found a name you love, and she will enjoy throughout her life.

Did you just discover you are pregnant? Your mind is probably reeling, your heart beating a little faster in excitement. When should you start thinking about baby names?

Did you just discover you are pregnant? Your mind is probably reeling, your heart beating a little faster in excitement. You have many decisions to start making about the nursery, doctors, and baby names. When should you start thinking about baby names?

Choosing baby names can be either very stressful, or a fun game for both the expectant mother and father. One of the best ways to avoid the feeling of stress is to start playing with baby names early in the pregnancy. You can grab baby name books, start writing down names you hear on the television, see in magazines, and hear in conversations. Turn the entire process of choosing baby names into a big exploration and discovery game.

Some doctors and psychologists recommend waiting to start thinking about baby names until after your first trimester. This period of time is when you have the highest risk of a miscarriage. The concern is choosing baby names, and making a very emotional attachment, and then having the disaster of a miscarriage. As you probably already feel in your heart, the attachment is already there. Whether you have a name or not, the loss would be tremendous. While you can choose to wait until later to choose the final name, you can begin having the fun, and bonding of thinking about baby names now.

The best reason to start thinking about baby names early is to give both of you time to let the names age in your mind. Sometimes the baby names you think sound great today, sound terrible in a week or two. Having an opportunity to reflect on your choices of names allows you to choose the perfect name for your baby.

Make sure as you start thinking about baby names to choose names for both boys and girls. It is always safer to have both names ready, just in case the ultrasound was misunderstood, and your expected little girl has a little extra surprise for you. Having the shock of needing to choose a name in an emergency manner is never fun.

Is there any good reasons to wait until late in the pregnancy to start thinking about baby names? There is one fantastic reason, nosy parents and friends. Once you have selected names, then everyone keeps quizzing you, and trying to trick you into telling the name. They want to be the first to know. If you have not selected the name, you cannot tell them, so no worries about leaking the name.

The best part of choosing baby names is the constant reminder and bond you begin creating. Your mind begins to think of the baby growing inside as a real person, with a real name. You are able to start talking to your baby by their name long before they are born. The joy you feel is increased when you can use a name, and not only saying “baby”. Go ahead, start thinking about baby names immediately, it is one of the fun elements of being pregnant.
