The first year of your baby’s life is exciting. Your baby is changing very fast. Everytime you turn around they are doing something new. Following are some of the firsts you can expect from your baby during their first year.
In the first month of life, it seems like your baby spends all their time eating and sleeping. Watch for them to start reacting to bright lights, noticing loud sounds, and being able to focus on objects near them.
The second month is a little more fun. This is the month you may see an occasional smile, and start hearing a few sounds other than crying. Your baby will notice movement of objects, and follow them with their eyes.
Your baby will start reaching for objects, opening and closing their hands during the third month. You will see them lifting their head up and beginning to recognize faces.
The fourth month will have you clapping your hands. This is the month your baby will probably start sleeping through the night. Watch closely when you lay your baby down starting this month, they will likely start rolling over, and you don’t want them near the edge of a bed.
One of the firsts you can expect from your baby in month five is a tooth. This is one of the big events during your baby’s first year, but expect to have a fussy baby for a few days while the tooth works through.
Month six will see your baby starting to hold their own bottle, drinking from a cup, and is a normal time to start trying baby food. Your little baby is beginning to grow up.
Did you buy finger foods yet? Month seven will find your baby wanting to explore foods with their own fingers. Your baby will start enjoying games like peek-a-boo.
Hopefully you have put away all the good things by now. Your baby is ready to chew on everything during month eight. They will start getting up into a crawling position, and be rolling over in both directions easily, and quickly.
The ninth month is time to start having fun with the mirror. Self recognition is one of the big firsts you can expect from your baby this month. Your baby will be able to transition from being on their stomach to sitting.
The tenth month is time to start moving everything higher. Your infant now is pulling themselves up, grabbing things, and being able to move them between hands with ease. Nothing is safe in the home.
The eleventh month is great fun for parents. Your baby will probably start saying mama and dada. You can teach them to clap their hands and wave goodbye. They hear and understand when you issue a simple command like NO, but of course, they ignore it most of the time.
The twelfth month could bring consistent crawling, possibly walking, and enjoying toys. They can bang their toys together, will share them with you, as long as you give it back quickly.
The first year is filled with many more firsts you can expect from your baby. It is a time of great fun, and enjoyment. Make sure you treasure every moment.
