Traditional Baby Names – Looking To The Past For A New Future

One of the easiest and best ways to name your new baby is to stay with traditional baby names. These names have been handed down generation by generation not because of just tradition, but because they sound great.

You can probably think of dozens of traditional baby names which are currently in use in your own family tree. You many even have a few examples of names which have been handed down from father to son for many years, with second, third, and fourth being appended to the name. We can all think of wealthy families which have done this for decades in their families, creating a great family tradition.

Are you looking at traditional baby names simply to make the choice easier, and to give your baby a name which will be easy to live with? Maybe you have started looking into your own family history to find names, and discovered both boys and girls names which have been used in many different generations of your family. Either way, choosing these names is great.

Some of the most common traditional boys names include Robert, James, John, Peter, Paul, Adam, Joseph, Timothy, and Thomas. You probably know people in your circle of friends and family who have these names.

For girls the traditional baby names include ones like Susan, Ann, Diane, Mary, Karen, Theresa, Ruth, and Betty. Once again, the odds are very high you know women using these names either in your family, among friends, or from your office.

As you start exploring traditional baby names you will discover a large percentage of these names have their roots in the Bible. In the Western world names have been heavily influenced by the use of the names of the Disciples, Prophets, Kings, and other historic figures from the Bible. You can see the truth of this by just picking up a Bible and flipping open pages. You will discover names you recognize on almost every page within the Bible.

If you are having a hard time choosing a traditional baby name one of the best ways to find a large group of them is to start paging through the yellow pages for professionals like Doctors, Lawyers, and CPA’s. As you see names you recognize as common names write them down on a sheet of paper. You will quickly have a list of 30 to 50 names with no problems. If you want a larger list, then head back to your Bible, and start copying down the names you recognize as commonly used.

What is the big challenge you are going to run into? When you come up with a list of 50 plus names and start needing to get the list down to one. When you have 50 great traditional baby names, they all sound great, many of them may have importance to you through your family and friends. It will take you some time to think about each name and see how it feels to you. Imagine calling your baby the name, and see what you think. You will soon have your list down to a few golden names which sound great to you, then you simply choose the one which feels the best.
